The cruise lines have encourged me to book my fishing charter through them to avoid the chance of missing the ships departure, should I be concerned? IN ALL OUR YEARS IN BUSINESS WE HAVE NEVER HAD A CHARTER FISHING CUSTOMER MISS HIS OR HER DEPARTURE! Describe the fishing? We offer full and half-day charters. Our half-day charter is 4 hours of fishing and is a perfect fit for the cruise ship passengers. We offer salmon fishing as well as bottom fishing for halibut, lingcod, and rockfish. We have all five species of salmon available in Alaska waters. Trolling with downriggers is our favored method of fishing. Not only is trolling very effective but it requires no previous fishing experience anyone can be an instant success at this type of fishing. Great salmon fishing is available near Ketchikan. There is no need for a long boat ride to reach the quality fishing areas; we will have lines in the water within 20 minutes of leaving the dock. We do not normally offer halibut fishing on our half-day charters. There is simply not enough time to travel to the best halibut fishing. Can I ship my fish home? Shipping of your catch is available and we can take care of that for you. A local custom processor will process and ship your fish to you for an additional charge. A credit card can be used for payment. The fish will be sent Fed Ex. Next day air with a delivery date of your choosing. The processor’s smoked salmon is a favorite of ours. We have used this processor for years and have never had a single complaint from one of our guests. What is provided and are there any hidden expenses? I provide all the fishing tackle, cold drinks both regular and diet, and light snacks. Rain gear is provided. There is an additional charge for processing and shipping of your catch. You are welcomed to choose to catch and release your fish keeping only great photos or video of your Alaska adventure. How rough are the seas where I will be fishing? Because of the many islands in Southeast Alaska, there are always protected waters to fish even on windy days. Your safety and comfort are our primary concern. We know the waters the weather and the fishing and will use this knowledge to deliver you a terrific charter. Is it safe? I have small children. This is a very safe excursion. Our Orca charter boat is purpose built for fishing Alaska’s waters. The boat has a warm cabin area forward, with an open back deck for fishing, wildlife viewing, and photography. The U.S. Coast Guard as well as the Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game strictly regulate the captain and the vessel. How many people will be on the boat with us? The coast guard limits us to six passengers. Alaska fish and game laws also limit us to fishing no more than six lines per vessel with a limit of one fishing rod per angler. It would be very unusual to have more than four guests on board during a trip. You have the option of booking the entire boat for your group’s exclusive charter. What do I need to bring along and how should I dress? You should dress comfortably for the current weather conditions on the day of your charter. Dressing in layers that can be removed or added for changing weather conditions is advised. You are welcomed to bring your rain gear along just in case, if you wish, however we provide rain gear for our guests. Don’t forget your cameras and eyewear as well as any personal items you may need How do I find you when I get to Ketchikan and how do I get back to the ship after the charter? I will meet you at the bottom of the gangplank as you disembark your cruise ship in Ketchikan. I will be holding a sign with your name on it. I also will have a cell phone that you can contact me on if the need should arise. I will take you to the boat moored nearby and we will depart head out on the water. Returning from the charter I will drop you off at your cruise ship. |
